Ruffled Gingham Fall Wreath
| September 19, 2012 | Posted by Jessie under Crafty Things, Fall, Outdoors |
After a string of large-scale makeovers {a la the master and half baths}, I was ready to work on some simple crafts. With the fall weather here, and oh so lovely, I was ready to create something pretty and fresh for the front door and this gingham wreath was the perfect answer.
Here is what you will need to make one
- wreath form {mine is a 12″ wreath from the Dollar Tree}
- 1/2 yard gingham fabric
- hot glue gun
- fall branches, etc. for embellishing
My sister-in-law and I made a similar wreath to this a few years ago based on this tutorial and it is still one of my favorites for Christmas. First, I cut my fabric into about 2″ strips as long as the width of my fabric.
Then I grabbed my wreath form and started gluing. You only have to glue the beginning of the strip and the end and just keep wrapping the fabric.
Once I got the whole form wrapped, I still had a long strip left so I continued to wrap it around and folded the end of it in half to create the loop it will hang from.
Then I wrapped the bottom edge back around and glued it in place.
Then the form was wrapped and ready for ruffles.
Use the same width strips to create the ruffles. I started on the top where my loop was. Glue one edge and then start bunching, gluing, bunching, gluing, bunching, and gluing:)
I started on the top and wrapped around and then moved toward the front to cover the entire wreath.
Once it was covered, I was ready to embellish.
I just grabbed a little bunch of fall leaves/branches from the Dollar Tree and hot glued them to the wreath and hung it up!
This wreath cost around $3 and took about 1/2 an hour to make and I love it.
What fall projects have you created? Anyone else love gingham?
