Our Next Project: Master Bath!
July 9, 2012 | Posted by Jessie under Bathrooms |
We’ve taken a little time off this summer from big projects but we’re starting to get the itch again. When we scored the free cabinetry, we also got two slabs of beautiful granite {yes, for free. Don’t hate us} so we’ve been brainstorming the best places for them. We finally have both places picked out and project 1 is the master bath. Yay! We aren’t doing a total overhaul of the room, but revamping the vanity area. I am an awful blogger and have already started on this project {that’s not the awful part}, but unfortunately, I was so excited to get started that I didn’t take any “before” pics. Gasp. I know. These are the best pics of what this area looked like before, from when we built our wood mirror frame.
You get the gist. Blah, builder grade vanity and countertop, plain faucets, hardly any hardware…it’s boring. The one thing this area had going for it was the frame we built…
And as much as we loved the look, it’s getting removed during this makeover. Womp womp. But I’m sure we’ll find something to do with that reclaimed wood somewhere else. It just doesn’t fit our new look. Ok, so here’s the grand plan. We’re going dark. Totally different from most of our projects, but I like a little contrast. Our master bedroom is a light, airy gray color with black furniture so the bathroom is getting a similar look. We’re keeping the slate gray walls and tackling this to-do list:
- stain vanity {already done!}
- replace counter with new granite
- install new sinks and faucets
- reframe mirror
- possibly build small shelves on either side
- spray paint lighting fixture
- add hardware
Lots of DIY going on here. Mike is going to try and cut the granite himself. I have complete faith in him:) He is going to have to cut it to size and create holes for the new sink and faucet. Everyone keep your fingers crossed all goes well. And send along any tips you have! We’ve actually already started on one project…the vanity is stained! I have to put some poly on it today, add the hardware, and snap the pics but hopefully it will be ready to share tomorrow. It looks beautiful already:) We ordered our sinks and faucets yesterday from Amazon and I think we got some great bargains. We’re bringing a little vintage charm to this area through our hardware, faucets, lighting, and mirror frame. Wanna see what we ordered?
We are staining the vanity pretty dark and the granite is a dark mixture of black, brown, and a steel gray so the white vessel sinks will pop. I’m anxious to see the color of the faucets in person. They are called antique brass so it should be a cool, aged look. It’s all very exciting! Come back tomorrow to see the first project finished!
How exciting!!
Even though you aren’t doing a full overhaul, still sounds like a lot of changes… can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Thanks, Ash! The vanity is ready to show tomorrow! It’s been fun:)
