Mitten Pillow
November 30, 2011 | Posted by Jessie under Living Room, Pudge, Seasonal, Sewing Projects |
Staying on my Christmas decorating kick {which may not go away for awhile-you’ve been warned}, I whipped up a simple wintry pillow the other night with leftover fabric from Pudge’s stocking.
I started by sewing an envelope pillow using some muslin fabric {my go-to for pillows or anything that may not stay around forever because it’s so cheap}.
Then I grabbed the fabric, folded it in half, and drew a stocking on the wrong side.
Then I cut it out and had two adorable mitten hands. I almost hate to admit this, but I did iron them before putting them on the pillow. Soooo not like me but I was feeling a little bit like a “finisher.” Impressed?
Then I laid out the mittens and grabbed the hot glue gun. I used a very small amount of glue so that it wouldn’t soak through the mittens and leave glue marks. Yes, you could sew these on, but even though I ironed the mittens, I wasn’t about to take the time to sew those babies on. Glue was all I had patience for.
The last touch was the mitten strings. I used some oatmeal colored yarn I had laying around and placed them under the mittens and on the pillow. I added a dab of glue under the gloves, where the two pieces intersect, and a dab where they make those cute little curly cues at the bottom.
This little pillow cost about $1.50 for the muslin. Everything else I had on hand. I love the touch of green it adds to the room and can last through the winter season. That is if Pudge can keep his grubby hands off of it…
