Getaway Cabin: Log Beds
September 19, 2011 | Posted by Jessie under Build it Yourself |
After showing you my how my in-laws transformed their manufactured home into the log cabin they’ve always wanted, I promised you that I would show you the beautiful log beds that Mike, his dad, and his brother-in-law made for the cabin. Mike and I took some friends down there this past weekend and I snapped some pics of the beds to share with you. To build the beds, they took some of the leftover siding from the house:
And made three bed frames and headboards, one for the master and one for each guest room. Let’s start with the master:
The siding was a tongue and groove log siding which helped the boards fit together seamlessly. They cut the boards to length and backed it with plywood to secure all the logs together. They trimmed the edges with 2x4s and stained it all to match. And then, of course, they dressed the beds up with some pure hunter’s bedding:)
They used the same method for the two smaller beds in the guest bedrooms {aka our bedroom and Maggie and Trent’s bedroom}:
You can see that they also built the frames to match, using a method similar to the bed discussed here. Mike’s mom has added some great country charm to the cabin with accessories and window treatments as well.
Using lumber that they already had on hand and the same stain we used to stain the interior walls, they were able to make all three beds for free! They are the focal points in the bedrooms and add so much charm to the cabin. They did a great job:)

I love the bed! It’s like the perfect combination of polished and cabin that I need! We live in little house in a rural area but I’m trying to avoid the country kitch look while still making it look organic. I love this!
This would definitely work for you. Good luck!
Wow! Very nice. The entire cabin looks lovely!
Thanks, Melody! I’ll pass the compliment along to my in-laws:)
