Loft Spruce Ups

The loft is accessorized! I painted the backs of the built-ins last week and got around to shopping today. First day of summer vacation was a successful one. I went to my favorite flea market to find some fun knick knacks for our built-ins upstairs. I gave myself a $20 budget and was looking for items to fill all 10 shelves. Small limit for a large area but I got enough to fill it and stuck to my budget. I found all sorts of fun things to spice the area up. Let me remind you of the before:
And here it is all painted, primped, and pretty:
Ignore the fact that there are still 2 tvs there…one is getting moved tomorrow!
Each individual piece was less than $5, most being only a dollar or two. It’s amazing what you can find when you don’t know exactly what you are looking for. Sticking with my green, navy, and white color scheme, I opted for Rustoleum’s Apple Green and Heirloom White to paint most of my pieces. I left the lamp {bottom right} yellow, for a little unexpected punch of color and added some artwork {top right} from one of my favorite people in the world, Leanne Goodger, who sent this to me all the way from New Zealand.
Here’s how I made it so pretty. I started by gathering all the pieces that I wanted to spray paint {which was all but 2} and got my painting area ready. It was a gorgeous but crazy hot day here {over 90!} so I was able to paint on our back patio.
I wiped each piece out with a damp cloth and separated the pieces by which color I wanted to paint them and sprayed away.
It’s amazing what paint can do. This not so pretty green vase came to life when I painted the white on it. The bubbly surface went from odd and old to soft and pretty {this picture was taken mid paint}.
Besides filling the built-ins, I also scored an amazing old window at the flea market. It wasn’t part of the list of things to buy, but how could I pass this up?
And it was only $5! It’s so chippy and cool.
I had thought about filling the glass areas with some scrapbook paper, artwork, or fabric but I like it so much as is, I think I may just leave it. I would love to get a desk or buffet to go underneath it against the wall, but next up for the loft is to recover the bench seats. It’s on my to-do list for tomorrow. This room is coming together.

Jessie,
I love all of your projects.
Working with your spouse on things can be hard, but remember to keep saying to yourself “it is a project, it will be done soon” Handsome Man and I work in the same room, but separate projects because we can never agree or he gets too frustrated.
P.S. I am sending you a versatile blogger award! Visit me here http://dragonfliezcreationz.blogspot.com/
I love your blog!
Cherie
Thank you, Cherie!!!
Once again girl…..I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m so jealous of your window frame! I was just shopping for the same thing today. There is an antique store nearby me that has a BARNFUL of frames - a barnful! So, I figured he’d sell them for pretty cheap since he has so many. no
$20-$30 each. Boo. So, I went to DI (Like Goodwill) and picked up three old wood frames (not as cool as window frames) for $1, $3, and $4. Not bad. Got enough chicken wire to go on them for $10.
Your loft looks amazing! I love the horizontal stripes.
Sounds like you have a fun project in the works, Nisha!
I love the boldness of the stripes! I think it looks so classy. The room really seems to look a lot bigger.
[...] As I recently mentioned, I accessorized the entire loft {including the awesome old window} for $25. You couldn’t buy one of these items in a store for that price. Going to yard sales or flea markets can be overwhelming, but it is so satisfying to find unique pieces that are super cheap and fixing them up to fit your style. [...]
