Master Bedroom

It’s starting to get warmer around here which means the heat is off and we are enjoying living with our windows open. This of course only happens on days when it’s not pouring down rain, which are far and few between here recently. Anyway, we try to go without heat and air as much as possible and last summer that meant some sweaty nights. We decided to invest in a light quilt this year to be able to sleep a little more peacefully in the warmer seasons and it has {of course} put me in the mood for an entire bedroom makeover. Baby steps, though. Step one-bedding. We stopped by Target on Saturday and picked up a light, airy, beautiful new quilt. Here is the before in our bedroom:
And here it is now:
Target was inevitably out of the matching shams so I made a couple of gray ones with the leftover gray from our sectional. Then I took some of that same gray and made a fun, springy accent pillow. They had some matching accent pillows at Target but $20 for one pillow is a little hefty in our book, especially when I could make my own. Super simple-anyone can make this. I started off by making an envelope pillow. My pillow insert was 15″ x 15″ so I cut two pieces of fabric-one was about 4 inches longer than the other. I laid them, right sides together, folded over the longer edge, and sewed all around.
Next, I turned it right side out, put my insert in, and started on my flower.
I decided to try and hot glue my flower on, rather than sew. I started by cutting a strip of yellow linen scrap fabric about 2 inches wide. I pinned the center to my pillow and just started folding around to make sure I was going to like the shape.
Then I started going to town with the hot glue. I continued cutting strips {2 inches wide}, making the strip a few inches longer each time I went around to create a bigger, fuller flower.
The last step was to put a baby rosette in the middle {hot glued on also}. And, voila, flowery pillow!
Both shams and the accent pillow were free, using leftover fabric and a pillow insert I already had. Our new quilt was $63 from Target.
Here is my bedroom makeover agenda: new wall color-super soft, light gray, a crisp, white bedskirt and matching white curtains. Can’t wait for our new, softer room:) Come back for updates!
Jessie, I’m loving the soft gray with a bright accent color that’s popular right now. I’m dying to decorate one of our spare bedrooms with this color scheme! Great job with your pillows. Can’t wait to see the rest of your bedroom redo!
Thanks, Amanda! I’ll have to come back and see your updates!
