Herbaliciousness

It is finally starting to feel like spring in Indiana. I have made a goal for myself to actually plant some things and watch them grow this year. I half-heartedly tried last year to plant some flowers but there were already plants in the area I planted the seeds {oops} and they didn’t let my pretty flowers come up. So this year I’m really doing it. I’m starting with some herbs in the kitchen and I’ll work my way outside. I actually do have a whole plan, believe it or not, so come back to see some more pretty stuff soon {hopefully}. Here’s what I’ve accomplished so far.
I started my baby herb garden with some $0.49 mugs from Goodwill. I bought 4 of them and sprayed them glossy gray. Once that was dry, I took some leftover chalkboard paint and painted a rectangle on each one. They don’t have to be perfect. I just eyeballed my square/rectangle/blobs. It’s a rustic look, people.
Then I had to transfer the herbs to the mugs. I got a plate to catch the falling dirt and just basically stuffed them into the mugs. I split the mint plant into two different mugs because it was a pretty large one. The other two got their own.
Next was the shelving to display them.
Mike and I found this beautiful old wood at his work. We actually found an entire barn door and two large planks there-score. Ok, so it was in the dumpster at his work but that doesn’t make it any less gorgeous. He spotted the beauties out back, called me up, and we had a date dumpster diving. Romantic, huh? After dropping a board and busting open my toenail gracefully throwing them in the back of my small SUV, I proceeded to drive home with my entire back door flapping in the breeze down a major road. No shame.
Anyway, we measured two different sized shelves and cut them to size. Then we used two different bracket sets to attach them to the wall to put the mugs onto. Side note: these shelves will be great all year-picture mini pumpkins, wintry/Christmasiness, flowers, etc.
Lastly, I took a cute, wintry sign that previously hung here and painted the back of it with chalkboard paint. This way I can keep the sign here no matter what goes on the shelf and just doodle whatever my little heart desires.
Now we are enjoying the finished charm. And praying I wont’t kill them all.
Cost breakdown:
- mugs-$2
- herbs-$12
- shelf wood-free
- brackets-$10
- Total=24
I love this!!!! My herbs are currently in glass mini vases and they are tiny(started from seed). Your posts make me want to create! Im even thinking of sewing classes to learn how to sew.

Those are adorable! I wish I had somewhere indoors where I could keep mine so I could have them all year long. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

[...] You may remember me talking about the barn door Mike found in a dumpster behind his work about 6 months ago {we used the matching scrap pieces of wood here and here}.
