Slipcovers Part 2
April 3, 2011 | Posted by Jessie under Before and After, Living Room, Sewing Projects |
It took me forever but I finished the slipcover for our new love seat! It was a bit of a beast and I’m pretty sure I spent hours {literally, hours} staring at that thing to try and figure it all out, but it’s done and I’m very proud of it. I feel a little bit like this lady:
Yeah, I’m basically Wonder Woman’s twin sister. Except, instead of a lasso and shiny body suit, I was covered in thread and blood from all the pin pricks and wore some really hot, paint-covered, ratty sweat pants. Meh, close enough.
Ok, onto the really fun stuff. Here is the before {ignore the rips. I had already torn out the cording-which I reused for the slip-when I realized I hadn’t taken a pic}:
And after:
I am in love with this area now. It’s clean, light, airy, pretty, and comfy. And I made it. All by myself. Yes, there are seams where I don’t really want them, the back of the skirt isn’t even, and I’m sure there are plenty of mistakes all over that thing, but I love it because I made it. All by myself.
Believe it or not, I’m actually motivated to do another one now. And instead of recovering the couch we just got, I’m going for our sectional. The whole dang thing. I have probably lost my mind after talking to myself for days doing the love seat, but I think it’s a good crazy and can’t wait to get started. Well, I may wait just a few more days so all the holes in my fingers can heal:)
For now, I’ll just stare at this beautiful wall. I have some fun posts coming this week about some of the artwork you see here so make sure you come back.
Cost of the slipcover: $50.

That is just unbelievable to me how you figured all that out all by yourself! Amazing job jess and I love the little matching pillows too! Looks fabulous!!!
Thanks guys:)
Popped over twice to see your slipcover. (from two different sites) It definitely catches my eye! You did a great job. I hope my couch and chaise turn at as wonderful as yours.
That goes so well in the room. I love your framed cards. Visiting from Show and Tell at Blue Cricket.

I found your blog from Blue Cricket’s Show & Tell…I’m so amazed! Seriously, what a great job. My husband keeps telling me to sew some slip covers and I tell him he is crazy!! You ARE a superwoman!
Kudos.

Wow, Shelley, that wingback is gorgeous! Good work:) I’m planning on starting the sectional this weekend so make sure you check back to see the finished product!
Wow! I’m so impressed! I have a chair that needs slipcovering so badly, but I am just NOT motivated to tackle it! So, I moved it from the living room where it is seen to my son’s room. I thought it was fitting since he contributed to most of the stains. : )
Thanks, Vanessa! Hiding ugle furniture is always a good alternative:)
Absolutely lovely! If you have some time I’d love for you to link this up at my party

Thanks, Jacqueline! I just linked it up:)
Just found your site from Tatertots. Good job on your slipcover. I actually sew slipcovers for a living. Come on over and check out some of my before and afters.I am also HUGE into being debt free, so I liked your financial posts. I was just tempted to buy a new leather sectional for $1400 and then jumped on your site…I regained my strength to say no…my slipcovered sectional is just fine, even though the kids get it disgusting and it’s a chore to take the whole thing off and wash it.
Wow, that’s awesome Shelley! Good for you for not giving in to the temptation. I’m glad I could help out:) I just looked at your site and you have done some beautiful pieces! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your kind words:)
It is beautiful!! LOVE the color!
Thanks, Tracy!

I don’t want to sound way off topic, although I just would like to share this is a great posting. I have been trying really vigorously throughout the last two months to try and settle every one of my personal debts so I have the ability to resign my job and run several blogs for a living.
Wow, good for you, Christy! Congrats!
